Position Overview

Change.org is seeking a Senior Accountant to support the Finance team’s day-to-day operations and provide accurate financial information to stakeholders. This role reports directly to the Director of Finance and is based in the US. We are looking for a problem solver who can think critically about our internal processes, drive long-term solutions, and contribute to business decisions through accounting expertise.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with monthly and year-end accounting close activities, including preparation and review of journal entries, reconciliations, and flux variance analysis.
  • Identify opportunities for process efficiencies and implement enhancements to improve the overall accounting process and procedures.
  • Ensure financial records are maintained in compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Maintain and administer the company credit card program to ensure compliance with company policy and timely reporting.
  • Maintain company controls, including but not limited to cash controls.
  • Provide timely and accurate accounting information to users/vendors on an ad hoc basis.
  • Own balance sheet reconciliation tasks.
  • Assist in AP software implementation.

Requirements

Key Capabilities:

  • Systems-oriented mindset with a proactive approach to identifying and implementing improvements.
  • Ability to execute tasks autonomously with high accuracy while managing multiple deliverables.
  • Strong prioritization skills and the ability to act decisively to meet deadlines or address issues.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to convey information clearly and adjust communication style for different audiences.
  • Proficiency in utilizing spreadsheets for complex data manipulation.
  • Knowledge of basic accounting principles.

Target Background/Experience:

  • 5-7 years of hands-on accounting experience.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP, including basic accounting operations, cash reconciliations, accruals, prepaids, and balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Bachelor’s degree or foreign degree equivalent in Accounting, Economics, or a related field.
  • Experience must include:
    • GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles)
    • Financial analysis
    • Audit preparation
    • AR (Accounts Receivable), AP (Accounts Payable), and GL (General Ledger) accounting

Additional Experience (Preferred):

  • Experience working in a start-up environment.
  • Experience with Coupa and Corpay.
