Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field required (in lieu of degree, up to 4 years of additional related experience may be accepted)
  • CSP (Certified Safety Professional) certification preferred
  • Minimum of 5 years of related safety experience within a production and distribution environment
  • Excellent organizational, written and oral communication, listening, and presentation skills, including ability to present technical information and respond to questions from employees, government agencies, and customers
  • Computer literate with intermediate knowledge of MS Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Ability to interpret technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form
  • Ability to define and solve problems with abstract and concrete variables
  • Ability to calculate figures such as proportions, percentages, area, circumference, volume; apply basic algebra and geometry
  • Reliable transportation, current driver’s license, and minimum liability insurance as required by state
  • Ability to regularly move/transport up to 60 pounds and up to 125 pounds with material handling equipment
  • Ability to visit various sites with varying environments, conditions, layouts, and accessibility

Responsibilities

  • Champion and promote a strong safety and compliance culture by implementing programs to ensure associate safety and regulatory compliance
  • Manage, deliver, conduct training, and perform audits on Airgas standard operating procedures (SOPs), including Safety Manual, Medical Gas Manual, and other corporate compliance manuals/initiatives (may receive direction from supervisor or managers)
  • Represent the company on regulatory issues with government entities
  • Provide leadership and guidance on Airgas’s incident review committee
  • Analyze significant risk data for management by evaluating initiative effectiveness through safety assessments, compiling/interpreting data to identify gaps
  • Develop and implement action plans to mitigate risks
  • Conduct incident investigations with Branch/Plant Management and partner with insurance carriers to manage claims
  • Participate in activities to empower employees to lead safety efforts
  • Participate in a leadership capacity on the AERO (Airgas Emergency Response Operations) Team
  • Manage and coordinate area’s loss control initiatives, including training for regulatory safety/compliance, claims management, and auditing for SOP compliance
  • Other projects and duties as assigned
  • Frequent regional travel (up to 60% of work time); minimal overnight travel; Monday-Friday shift
