Requirements

  • Bachelor's and/or Master’s degree in Accounting
  • CPA, CIA, and/or CISA Certification preferred
  • Minimum three years of experience, the majority in external audit or risk advisory roles
  • Experience supervising direct reports, coaching/teaching less experienced personnel, and/or leading project teams
  • Demonstrated knowledge of business risks, internal controls over financial reporting (ICFR), SOX, and the COSO framework
  • Ability to navigate complex processes in client walkthroughs, determining ICFR gaps and weaknesses in real-time
  • Experience interacting with clients, establishing credibility, trust, and healthy relationships
  • Desire to collaborate to deliver outstanding client work and help build the team, methodologies, and practices
  • Past external audit and advisory experience to advise on efficient internal control environments tailored to client size, scale, and risk profile

Responsibilities

  • Assess the design and operating effectiveness of internal controls over financial reporting (ICFR)
  • Develop and execute remediation roadmaps for ICFR
  • Perform ICFR risk assessments
  • Gain understanding of clients’ objectives, regulatory, and risk management environment
  • Assist with Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) compliance and internal controls projects
  • Execute risk assessments considering risk of misstatement and fraud in financial reporting
  • Assess internal controls’ design adequacy to mitigate financial, operational, and compliance risks
  • Identify control gaps/improvement items, design controls in greenfield environments, and create detailed remediation roadmaps
  • Create internal controls process flows and risk/control matrices
  • Maintain technical competency and professional care per COSO, COBIT, auditing standards, and related techniques
  • Conduct day-to-day project management: develop project plans, review staff work for quality, provide status updates to clients/internal management, and mentor staff/senior consultants
  • Set priorities, coordinate project team daily, and monitor progress against schedules, budgets, deliverables, and status reporting
  • Communicate extensively with clients to manage expectations and report project status
  • Deliver oral and written presentations recommending improvements or reporting deficiencies to executive leadership
  • Stay abreast of emerging risk areas and related control techniques
  • Strengthen/maintain industry contacts and establish new long-term relationships
