Requirements

Active LPN license in the state of practice (for LPN)
Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) - National Healthcareer Association (NHA) with one year of experience, or Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) - American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA), or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) - American Medical Technologists (AMT) (for Medical Assistant)
RN license (for RN)
Visual acuity adequate to perform position duties
Ability to communicate effectively with others, hear, understand, and distinguish speech and other sounds
Knowledge of principles of growth and development and ability to respond to specific issues and data reflective of patient's status
Knowledge and skills to provide care for the population served in the department

Responsibilities

Provides professional nursing care to patients and families under the direction of the provider
Performs general nursing care to patients
Administers prescribed medications and treatments in accordance with nursing standards
Coordinates patient care activities for the clinic
Prepares equipment and assists provider during procedures, treatments, examinations, and testing
Observes, records, and reports patient’s condition and reactions to drugs and treatments to provider
Oversees appointment scheduling and ensures preferences to patients in emergency situations; maintains timely flow of patients
Greets patients and prepares them for physical examination; screens for health history, takes vitals, conducts nursing assessment, and documents in patient chart
Instructs patients in collection of samples and tests
Responds to patient phone calls in a timely manner with appropriate input from the physician
Educates patients and families about diagnostic process, medications, nutrition, and health/wellness maintenance
Suggests solutions to patient care crisis problems and complaints
Maintains exam rooms with necessary supplies and materials; ensures cleanliness; prepares list of medical supplies needed
Assures appropriate labeling of pathology specimens according to lab protocol; performs quality control and maintains records on lab testing
Performs selected medical assistant and clerical duties to assist in patient care following established standards
Works collaboratively with clinic staff to solve practice-related problems
Communicates with physicians and other healthcare team members to provide excellent patient care
