Requirements

Active Registered Nurse (RN) license from the Board of Nursing in the state of practice upon hire, or active Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license from the Board of Nursing in the state of practice upon hire
Visual acuity adequate to perform position duties
Ability to communicate effectively with others, hear, understand, and distinguish speech and other sounds

Responsibilities

Provide professional nursing care to patients and families under the direction of the provider
Communicate with physicians and other healthcare team members to ensure excellent patient care
Perform general nursing care to patients
Administer prescribed medications and treatments in accordance with nursing standards
Coordinate patient care activities for the clinic
Prepare equipment and assist provider during procedures, treatments, examinations, and testing
Observe, record, and report patient’s condition and reactions to drugs and treatments to provider
Oversee appointment scheduling and ensure preferences are given to patients in emergency situations; maintain timely flow of patients
Greet patients and prepare them for physical examination; screen for appropriate information including health history, vitals, and nursing assessment; document in patient chart
Instruct patients in collection of samples and tests
Respond to patient phone calls in a timely manner with appropriate input from the physician
Educate patients and families about diagnostic process, medications, nutrition, and health/wellness maintenance
Suggest solutions to patient care crisis problems and complaints
Maintain exam rooms with necessary supplies and materials; ensure cleanliness; prepare list of medical supplies needed
Assure appropriate labeling of pathology specimens according to lab protocol; perform quality control and maintain records on all lab testing
Promote Avera’s values of compassion, hospitality, and stewardship
