Responsibilities

Provides professional nursing care, assessment, and evaluations to residents within scope of practice
Reviews physician prescriptions and communicates nursing care plans and pertinent information to the health care team
Coordinates with other healthcare providers and provides physical, emotional, psychological, and spiritual support to residents, families, and friends
Develops nursing care plans by obtaining medical histories, examining residents, documenting physical condition, psychological status, and social factors; conferring with family and friends; establishing nursing diagnosis, objectives, interventions, schedules, and timetables
Teaches healthcare requirements by establishing resident care goals; instructing residents, families, and friends on conditions, medications, and self-care skills; answering questions; providing information and resources
Evaluates resident care by adhering to therapeutic standards; measuring health outcomes; reviewing records; noting changing conditions; re-evaluating and modifying care plans
Maintains safe, secure, and healthy resident care environment by following infection-control policies, medication administration/storage procedures, controlled substance regulations, organizational standards, policies, and legal regulations; alerting others to potential concerns
Maintains resident care equipment by following operating instructions, troubleshooting breakdowns, maintaining supplies, performing preventive maintenance, and calling for repairs
Keeps resident care supplies ready by checking stock, anticipating needs, placing/expediting orders, verifying receipt, and stocking items
Coordinates admissions, discharges, and transfers to and from the facility
Directs, plans, and coordinates workflow of nursing assistants and other nursing personnel
Maintains competence in nursing capabilities outlined by leadership
