Requirements

  • Registered Nurse (RN) - active license in the state of practice (Board of Nursing) upon hire
  • Visual acuity adequate to perform position duties
  • Ability to communicate effectively with others, hear, understand, and distinguish speech and other sounds
  • Preferred: 1-3 years clinical experience as RN
  • Preferred: Supervisory or management experience

Responsibilities

  • Supervises and directs patient care considering competency and skill levels of staff, assisting with critical or complex patients or when activity level is unmanageable
  • Serves as a resource for staff in areas of policy or procedure, ethical or legal questions, and other questions related to hospital services
  • Monitors staffing levels, coordinates and implements staffing plan to meet patient volume, identifies and manages personnel/patient issues in the absence of clinical leaders
  • Coordinates utilization of resources including staff, ancillary staff, equipment, and facilitates patient placement/throughput
  • Investigates problems and complaints from patients, families, physicians, and staff and takes appropriate action
  • Responsible for customer relations including resolution of patient complaints, communication of risk management concerns, and initiation of appropriate follow-up
  • Actively uses the nursing process in goal-focused patient care, demonstrating accountability as an individual and team member
  • Knowledgeable in administration, policies, and able to interpret these in the absence of administrative staff
  • Interviewing, hiring, developing, training, and retaining employees; planning, assigning, and leading work; appraising performance; rewarding and coaching employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems
  • Provides operational and administrative oversight in the delivery of patient care, serving as a resource person to staff both clinically and administratively, and acts as the off-shift representative of management making administrative decisions involving patients, families, and staff
