Requirements

Registered Nurse (RN) license from the Board of Nursing - active in the state of practice upon hire
Visual acuity adequate to perform position duties
Ability to communicate effectively, hear, understand, and distinguish speech and other sounds
Preferred: Certified Hemodialysis Nurse (CHN), Certified Peritoneal Dialysis Nurse (CPDN), Certified Dialysis Nurse (CDN), or Specialty Certification from ASHI upon hire
Preferred: Dialysis experience or critical care experience
Preferred: 1-3 years nursing experience if functioning as a home dialysis nurse, plus an additional 3 months experience in each specific modality (hemodialysis or peritoneal dialysis) for self-care training
Ability to work primarily days with possible weekends/evenings/holidays (24hrs/2wks on Mon, Wed, Fri)

Responsibilities

Provides care and treatment to patients on maintenance dialysis within the scope of nursing practice
Performs and maintains knowledge and proficiency in technical skills for dialysis treatments
Provides oversight and delegation to department staff
Understands and ensures compliance related to water room equipment operation and function
Complies with established departmental policies and procedures, scope of care, performance improvement activities, safety, environmental, and infection control standards
Documents in the patient record according to departmental policy/procedure
Promotes and maintains documentation and an environment compliant with state, federal, and regulatory agencies (including CMS/ESRD-Renal Network) and Quality Assurance/Process Improvement efforts
Coordinates care of patients in collaboration with Medical Director, Nephrologist, patients, families, other nursing staff, and ancillary departments
Acts as a patient/family advocate and collaborates with patient, family, and health care providers in providing patient care
Identifies patient/family learning needs, develops, implements, and evaluates an educational plan for patients
Provides patient education related to dialysis process, procedures, and care/management of dialysis accesses
Home dialysis nurses provide major portions of self-care and home dialysis training for patients and/or caregivers
