Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in nursing (BSN) preferred
  • Registered nurse licensed by State Board of Nursing in the state of employment, with license in good standing
  • American Heart Association Healthcare Provider CPR certification required within 30 days of hire; bi-annual re-certification required
  • Formal training in management of the aggressive patient required within 60 days of hire; annual re-certification required
  • Previous psychiatric experience with children, adolescents, and adults preferred
  • At the Hospital’s discretion, may be required to hold a qualified medical professional (QMP) designation and be deemed competent per Medical Staff bylaws; evaluated and potentially renewed annually
  • Employees at Child/Adolescent Day Treatment programs licensed under HFS §40 required to have either training in psychiatric nursing (including work with children with mental health disorders) or one (1) year of experience in a clinical setting with these children

Responsibilities

  • Implement patient care
  • Assess patients both physically and mentally
  • Collaborate with Psychiatrist, Therapist, Dietitians, and other members of the clinical team to develop appropriate plans of care
  • Communicate with patients and their families
  • Administer medication
  • Perform professional nursing activities to help patients achieve or regain and maintain maximum physical, emotional, or social functions, governed by Nurse Practice Act, Administrative Code, professional standards, and Rogers policies/procedures
  • Seek consultation with other health team members as patient condition and treatment goals warrant
  • Provide patient information to Patient Accounts department to ensure compliance with federal and state statutes
  • Work primarily at Oconomowoc campus residential facility; some positions may float to West Allis and Brown Deer campuses
