Requirements

  • Registered Nurse (RN, RN II, RN III) licensure
  • Ability to work PRN (1-2 shifts per week), Monday-Friday, 8am-4:30pm or 10:00am-6:30pm as needed
  • Knowledge of Nurse Practice Act, Administrative Code (state of employment), professional nursing standards, and Rogers Memorial Hospital policies/procedures
  • Ability to complete initial assessments, collect/record/analyze data within prescribed timeframes, including patient strengths/limitations, cultural/spiritual/ethnic factors, discharge needs, medical/physical status, medication history, and age-specific needs
  • Skills in involving patient support systems (family/friends) in assessments and documentation
  • Ability to act as patient advocate, explain rights, obtain consents/signatures, protect privacy/confidentiality, and assist in orientation
  • Knowledge of hospital policies on unit safety, gown/contraband searches
  • Ability to initiate/update treatment plans, participate in care conferences/staffings, develop/interpret goals, review lab data, evaluate risks (falls, self-abuse, suicidality, assaultive behavior), and assess changes in patient status
  • Safe and accurate medication administration skills (right patient, medication, dose, time, route) with knowledge of medication purposes/effects

Responsibilities

  • Complete initial assessments and document as required, including pertinent data on patient strengths/limitations, cultural/spiritual/ethnic factors, discharge needs, medical/physical status, medication history, and age-specific needs
  • Involve patient’s support systems (family, friends) in assessment and documentation; observe/document patient interactions with them
  • Act as patient advocate: explain rights, obtain signatures on consents, protect privacy/confidentiality, assist in orientation process
  • Employ hospital policies/procedures on unit safety, conduct gown/contraband searches respectfully, provide unit information sensitively
  • Initiate and update treatment plan/documentation: participate in planning/modifying care, evaluate data from others, represent nursing in care conferences, develop/interpret goals with patient/family, review/update as needed
  • Identify/interpret/document information from nursing interviews, observations, assessments, diagnostic data; confer with health professionals; review lab data and follow up with doctor
  • Evaluate risks (falls, self-abuse, suicidality, assaultive behavior) and develop age-appropriate interventions; assess/document changes in patient status
  • Implement patient care, including safe/correct medication administration with accurate documentation of purpose/effects
  • Provide patient information to Patient Accounts for compliance with federal/state statutes; seek consultation with health team as needed
