Requirements

  • Licensed as a Registered Nurse (governed by Nurse Practice Act, Administrative Code, professional standards, and Rogers policies)
  • Ability to complete initial assessments, collect/record/analyze data (patient strengths/limitations, cultural/spiritual/ethnic factors, discharge needs, medical status, medication history, age-specific needs)
  • Skills in involving patient's support systems in assessments and documentation
  • Knowledge of patient rights, advocacy, privacy/confidentiality, and obtaining consents/signatures
  • Familiarity with hospital policies/procedures (unit safety, gown/contraband search, patient orientation)
  • Ability to initiate/update treatment plans, participate in care conferences/staffings, develop/interpret goals
  • Competence in reviewing lab data, evaluating risks (falls, self-abuse, suicidality, assaultive behavior), and documenting changes/interventions
  • Safe/accurate medication administration (right patient/medication/dose/time/route, knowledge of purposes/effects)

Responsibilities

  • Perform professional nursing activities to help patients achieve/regain/maintain maximum physical, emotional, or social functions
  • Seek consultation with health team members as needed; provide patient information to Patient Accounts for compliance
  • Complete initial assessments and documentation per hospital policy
  • Observe/document patient interactions with family/friends; obtain data from support systems
  • Act as patient advocate: explain rights, obtain consents/signatures, protect privacy/confidentiality
  • Assist in patient orientation; conduct gown/contraband searches respectfully; provide unit information sensitively
  • Initiate/update treatment plan: participate in planning/modifying care, evaluate data from others, represent nursing in staffings, write/review goals
  • Identify/interpret/document data from interviews/observations/assessments; confer with professionals; review labs and follow up
  • Evaluate risks (falls, self-abuse, suicidality, assault); develop age-appropriate interventions; assess/document status changes
  • Implement patient care, including safe/correct medication administration and documentation
