Requirements

  • Registered nurse licensed by State Board of Nursing in the state of employment (license must be in good standing)
  • Bachelor’s degree in nursing (BSN) preferred
  • American Heart Association Healthcare Provider CPR certification (required within 30 days of hire; bi-annual re-certification required)
  • Formal training in management of the aggressive patient (required within 60 days of hire; annual re-certification required)
  • Previous psychiatric experience with children, adolescents, and adults preferred
  • May be required to hold Qualified Medical Professional (QMP) designation (at hospital's discretion; evaluated annually)
  • For Child/Adolescent Day Treatment programs: training in psychiatric nursing including work with children with mental health disorders, or 1 year of experience in a clinical setting with these children

Responsibilities

  • Implement patient care
  • Assess patients both physically and mentally
  • Collaborate with Psychiatrist, Therapist, Dietitians, and other clinical team members to develop appropriate plans of care
  • Communicate with patients and their families
  • Administer medication
  • Perform professional nursing activities to help patients achieve or regain, and maintain, maximum physical, emotional, or social functions
  • Seek consultation with other health team members as patient's condition and treatment goals warrant
  • Provide patient information to ensure compliance with federal and state statutes (in conjunction with Patient Accounts department)
