Requirements

Registered Nurse license by the State Board of Nursing in the state of employment (must be in good standing)
Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (BSN) preferred
American Heart Association Healthcare Provider CPR certification (required within 30 days of hire; bi-annual recertification required)
Formal training in management of the aggressive patient (required within 60 days of hire; annual recertification required)
Previous psychiatric experience with children, adolescents, and adults preferred
May be required to hold Qualified Medical Professional (QMP) designation at the hospital’s discretion (evaluated annually for competency)

Responsibilities

Implement patient care
Assess patients both physically and mentally
Collaborate with Psychiatrist, Therapist, Dietitians, and other clinical team members to develop appropriate plans of care
Communicate with patients and their families
Administer medication
Perform professional nursing activities to help patients achieve or regain, and maintain, maximum physical, emotional, or social functions
Seek consultation with other health team members as patient condition and treatment goals warrant
Provide patient information to ensure compliance with federal and state statutes (in conjunction with Patient Accounts department)
