Requirements

Graduate from a CCNE or NLN accredited nursing program (strongly preferred) or an approved nursing program
Bachelor's degree in nursing (preferred)
Licensed as a registered nurse in Iowa and/or meeting the requirements of multi-state licensure

Responsibilities

Assess physical condition and nursing needs of inpatients, outpatients, and ER patients
Plan for patient's total care needs in cooperation with members of the medical care team and personnel of other departments
Perform daily charge nurse duties
Implement, delegate, and supervise nursing care in patient care units by overseeing LPNs, patient care technicians, and health unit coordinators
Add or modify services as determined by outcomes evaluation
Communicate clearly with patients, staff, and doctors; interact professionally with patient/family and involve them in the formation of the plan of care
Assist in orientation of new personnel to units
Maintain records of medical and nursing treatments and related services executed by nursing staff through appropriate and accurate documentation and utilization of the electronic medical record
Check crash cart and defibrillator daily; perform monthly outdated-medication checks
Administer medications efficiently and correctly utilizing the Pyxis system; maintain current knowledge of medications and their correct administration
Perform quality assurance screening (i.e., Infection Control/Safety) on a monthly basis
Maintain competency with operational equipment
Provide quality nursing care to patients and supervise staff working with the RN
Coordinate care with ancillary staff and communicate effectively with physicians to ensure patient care
