  • Proficiency with Lab Work Order System (LWO), Siemens Teamcenter PLM software, L2L (Leading2Lean) manufacturing software, SharePoint document control, Workday, UKG, customer portals, and other software
  • Demonstrated leadership attributes and ability to train and lead lab technicians
  • Ability to stand or sit for extended periods, lift up to 35 lbs. shoulder high or to floor level, and walk long distances
  • Compliance with safety policies, procedures, and PPE requirements
  • Occasional travel up to 5%

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and perform materials analysis, metallurgy evaluations, heat treatment verifications, and fracture analysis for internally manufactured and purchased parts
  • Conduct hardness testing, heat treatment case depth analysis, report writing, failure analysis, root cause analysis, and problem solving
  • Determine conformance to print for product or process function issues
  • Propose continuous improvement of heat treatment processes
  • Communicate cross-functionally with product engineering, warranty engineering, manufacturing, assembly, and supplier quality departments on suspect part risk analysis
  • Train, lead, and manage lab technicians
  • Interface with internal BorgWarner team members, suppliers, and customers for issue resolution
  • Support product development (design, fabrication, heat treating, testing, PPAP), supplier and internal quality, and warranty investigations
  • Perform troubleshooting, make recommendations, accept/reject outcomes, and publish reports
  • For new products: propose alternative solutions to metallurgical issues and provide component analysis for PPAP
  • For existing products: provide root cause analysis of part fracture modes, analyze metal parts for conformance to print, approve/reject materials deviations, complete metallurgical evaluations, and write reports
  • Maintain metallurgical lab equipment, inventory, and 5S expectations (proactive maintenance, procure new equipment)
  • Collaborate with external vendors, labs, equipment suppliers, and service resources
  • Handle additional duties: training, process improvements, raw material certification review/approval, develop written procedures, annual CQI-9 Heat Treat System Assessment
  • Communicate effectively with peers, internal/external customers, and suppliers
  • Perform sectioning, mounting, polishing, microstructural assessment, use of light microscopes and imaging techniques, knowledge of Scanning Electron Microscopy, hardness testing, case depth, spectrometry, powder metal density
  • Drive metallurgy lab process improvement, documentation, and records maintenance
  • Apply relevant metallurgical industry standards and benchmarking best practices
  • Other duties as assigned by Quality Leadership
