Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science (Microbiology or equivalent)
  • QC microbiology experience within a biopharmaceutical setting (highly desired)
  • Previous experience with Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS)
  • Demonstrated experience with data entry, verification, and record keeping
  • Knowledgeable in cGMP practices (past experience in cGMP pharmaceutical industry highly regarded)
  • Ability to work in a highly dynamic, frequently changing environment with a wide variety of people and perspectives
  • Capable of effectively communicating in multiple modalities (e.g., electronic, written, verbal)
  • Participation in rotational weekend and public holiday work
  • Adherence to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), safety standards, cleanroom protocols (no hair products, jewelry, makeup, nail polish, perfume, exposed piercings, facial hair), and wearing PPE (safety glasses, gowning, gloves, lab coat, ear plugs)

Responsibilities

  • Perform QC microbiological testing and associated tasks including bioburden testing of process intermediates, crude harvest, drug substance, and WFI
  • Perform environmental monitoring including surface monitoring, active and passive air sampling
  • Perform growth promotion testing of microbiological media used in testing
  • Responsible for stock control within the Microbiology laboratory
  • Perform all work in a safe manner adhering to EH&S safe working practices, including wearing PPE; conduct proactive hazard identification and report accidents, incidents, and near misses
  • Actively contribute to process improvement initiatives
  • Prepare, maintain, and improve the quality of microbiological generated documents including SOPs, Specifications, Test Methods, Policies, Summary Reports, and Investigation Reports
  • Initiate and implement Change Controls
  • Provide microbiological technical support and input into Quality related issues
  • Communicate effectively across departments and internal customers
  • Perform internal and external networking with other microbiologists and external specialists for benchmarking and development
  • Document all work to GMP standards
  • Execute studies in accordance with current guidelines
