Requirements

  • Degree in Aerospace engineering, Aeronautical engineering, Mechanical engineering, General engineering, Maths, Physics, Chemistry, Materials Sciences or other related subject at 2.2 or higher
  • Passion for propulsion, flight performance and the underlying sciences
  • Ability to clearly communicate and present ideas including preparing technical presentations and reports
  • British Citizen or a Dual UK national with British citizenship (security clearance requirements)
  • Willingness to undergo HMG Basic Personnel Security Standard checks (BPSS)

Responsibilities

  • Undertake four 6-month placements exposing to various aspects of the Propulsion Department
  • Use bespoke tools alongside commercial software to evaluate the performance of propulsion system options
  • Evaluate a range of missiles in different stages of development (concept, assessment, development, in-service)
  • Engage with propulsion performance, integration, plume, thermal, structural and system aspects of missile and propulsion design, fostering a multi-disciplinary approach
  • Assess propulsion impact when integrating onto land, naval and air platforms
  • Work with leading UK and international propulsion system suppliers
  • Receive mentorship to learn propulsion performance modelling techniques
  • One placement may be external to Propulsion (e.g., at Rolls Royce, BAE Systems, DSTL, ARA, S&C Thermofluids, Roxel Motors) to understand customer and supplier workflows
  • Apply university knowledge to industry-specific problems and gain understanding of MBDA's work
