Position Overview

Thermo Fisher Scientific is seeking a motivated and experienced Privacy Professional to join our Global Privacy and Technology Office (GPTO) as a Privacy Specialist. This role is crucial in advising the organization on privacy matters and developing creative, pragmatic solutions to support the business's innovative use of data. The ideal candidate will have proven experience applying global privacy laws, regulations, and standards, preferably within a pharmaceutical or clinical research setting, and will be adept at navigating complex issues and providing practical advice to diverse business partners.

The primary responsibility of the Privacy Specialist is to ensure the organization's alignment with global data protection laws and regulations. This role requires the ability to manage multiple projects independently while also confidently raising concerns when necessary.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide guidance on global data protection laws, regulations, and standards to ensure organizational compliance.
  • Identify privacy-related issues during assessments and propose creative, compliant solutions to support business growth and data utilization.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Legal, IT, Information Security, and Data Retention, to integrate privacy requirements into business processes and systems.
  • Work closely with other GPTO members to deliver consistent and cohesive advice to the business.
  • Educate and train employees on privacy policies and procedures.
  • Communicate directly with clients regarding questions about the company's Privacy Program.
  • Stay current with changes in the global privacy landscape and advise on their business impact.

Keys to Success

Education and Knowledge:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent required.
  • IAPP (CIPP/E, CIPM, CIPT) qualifications are desirable.
  • Proficiency in business English.

Experience:

  • 3-5 years of professional experience.
  • Excellent working knowledge of applying global privacy laws, regulations, and standards within a large multinational company, preferably in the pharmaceutical, clinical research, or healthcare sector.
  • Proven ability to balance multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Experience conducting Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIAs) and Technology Impact Assessments (TIAs) on innovative new technologies containing health data, including those with AI functionalities.
