Candidates should possess 10-15 years of experience in software engineering, DevOps, SRE, or platform operations roles. A programming background in Python and experience with Dynatrace are required, along with a history of implementing end-to-end observability architecture. Proficiency in Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and configuration management, working knowledge of cloud-native infrastructure, distributed microservice architectures, and CI/CD pipelines are essential. Hands-on experience with Jira or similar systems, familiarity with observability tools (metrics, logging, tracing platforms), and hands-on experience building dashboards are necessary. Cloud platform certifications such as AWS Certified DevOps Engineer or Azure DevOps Engineer Expert are preferred, as is a history of developing technical teams. Proficiency in IT service management tools like ServiceNow is also required.
The Principal Observability Engineer will consult with teams to ensure system reliability and scalability, operating at the intersection of systems engineering, platform operations, and tooling. They will design and teach best practices in observability, helping teams improve system reliability and performance. Responsibilities include designing and implementing comprehensive observability solutions, collaborating with development, operations, and SRE teams to identify performance metrics, and ensuring early resolution of issues. The role involves building dashboards, alerts, and reports, implementing solutions to notify the right people during issues, and fine-tuning backend configurations to match customer traffic patterns. Additionally, they will lead junior engineers, encourage continuous improvement, configure applications to collect telemetry data, define requirements and advocate for tooling improvements, and guide system optimization. The engineer will also design and implement end-to-end observability solutions integrating with Dynatrace and ServiceNow CMDB.
