Responsibilities

The Principal Engineer will serve as a technical leader in the design and evolution of GitLab’s multi-tenant platform into distributed systems, providing deep knowledge of the product and customer use cases to guide architecture decisions, taking ownership of critical projects, independently driving them to deliver results with high quality and efficiency, and fostering a strong engineering culture that focuses on innovation and collaboration while mentoring engineers. They will also partner with engineering, product, and leadership teams to ensure alignment and exceed customer needs, specifically addressing challenges related to backend API design, implementation with access control, throttling, and observability, architecting for zero downtime, and application and infrastructure hardening in a distributed systems environment.
