Requirements

Medical Doctor (MD) - Licensed by Board of Medicine and qualified to practice medicine in the state of services, board certified or board eligible upon hire
Or Doctor of Osteopathy (DO) - Licensed by Board of Medicine and qualified to practice medicine in the state of services, board certified or board eligible upon hire
Federal Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) license (state and federal) based on state of practice upon hire
Visual acuity adequate to perform position duties
Ability to communicate effectively with others, hear, understand, and distinguish speech and other sounds
Ability to work primarily days with night, weekend, and holiday on-call involvement

Responsibilities

Assesses, diagnoses, and treats patients according to medical staff approved protocol and acceptable standards of practice
Provides medical services and health education to patients and family members, contributing to individual and group health education to increase motivation for self-care
Performs necessary diagnostic and therapeutic procedures
Interprets information from the diagnostic process and formulates appropriate plans of care
Provides quality care, demonstrating appropriate health, safety, and aseptic practices
Recognizes and reacts appropriately to environmental safety factors related to patient care and provides patient instruction on environment of care and safety standards
Understands, applies, and supports practice policies, procedures, goals, and standards
Meets regularly with the care team for consultation, collaboration, and to promote quality care; assures appropriate patient referrals
Maintains patient records and accurate information
Promotes Avera’s values of compassion, hospitality, and stewardship
Maintains confidentiality
