Requirements

Responsibilities

  • Provide patient care under direct visual supervision of a Registered Nurse (FMCNA RN) or in a treatment room adjacent to an RN
  • Report and document all new and unusual incidents, information, complaints, or problems to the RN
  • Promote and assist in maintaining a safe and clean working environment
  • Support FMCNA's Quality Enhancement Program (QEP), Quality Assessment and Performance Improvement (QAI) activities, patient satisfaction, and process improvements
  • Promote and assist in meeting Total Area Productivity (TAP) goals
  • With competency, set up and prime equipment for renal replacement therapies as directed by the Fresenius Nurse
  • Welcome assigned patients, inquire about their well-being, and report complaints or observations to the RN
  • Evaluate vascular access for patency and report unusual findings to the RN
  • Obtain necessary pre- and post-treatment vital signs and weight; report unusual findings to the RN
  • Perform vascular access cannulation and report difficulties or unusual findings to the RN
  • Calculate and enter individual patients' dialysis machine programming (e.g., UF goal, treatment time, Na modeling, UF modeling)
  • Ensure appropriate safety alarms are enabled (e.g., narrow venous limits NVL 160)
  • Record accurate and timely information on vital signs and treatment parameters on the Hemodialysis Treatment Sheet
  • Initiate renal replacement treatment per prescribed orders (e.g., set blood flow rate QB, dialysate flow rate QD, or peritoneal dialysis)
  • Collect, label specimens, and ensure timely delivery to laboratory per facility policy
  • Evaluate intradialytic problems, provide interventions as prescribed or directed by RN, monitor patient response, and report unusual findings
  • Obtain vital signs prior to reinfusion and perform functions for treatment discontinuation; document and report changes
  • Perform and document interventions for unusual patient status and patient response
  • Evaluate vascular access during treatment (e.g., arterial/venous pressures), provide interventions, document, and report to RN
  • Discontinue dialysis treatment per established procedures
  • Evaluate patient prior to termination of venous access (e.g., standing/sitting blood pressures), obtain hemostasis, apply dressings, evaluate prior to discharge, and report unusual findings to RN
  • Perform and record pre- and post-dialysis evaluation, weight, and vital signs
  • Other duties as required
