Requirements

  • Adheres to FMCNA Compliance Program, regulatory, and FMS policy requirements
  • Functions under direct supervision of a licensed nurse
  • Complies with corporation, state, and federal agency regulations
  • Trained in FMCNA policies, procedures, and training for dialysis therapy
  • Capable of performing vascular access evaluation, cannulation, and heparin administration as delegated or allowed by state law
  • Ability to calculate and enter dialysis machine programming (e.g., UF goal, treatment time, Na modeling, UF modeling)
  • Skilled in obtaining vital signs, weights, and performing pre/post dialysis evaluations
  • Accountable for accurate and timely documentation on Hemodialysis Treatment Sheet and progress notes
  • Participates in Quality Enhancement Program (QEP), CQI activities, and process improvements

Responsibilities

  • Supports FMCNA's mission, vision, core values, and customer service philosophy
  • Drives FMS culture through values and customer service standards; provides outstanding service to all customers
  • Develops and maintains effective relationships through communication; resolves customer service issues timely
  • Assists in patient education on adequacy measures (OLC, AMP, UKM) and disease process/access
  • Welcomes patients, inquires about well-being, reports complaints/observations to nurse supervisor
  • Evaluates vascular access for patency pre-treatment; performs cannulation; reports unusual findings
  • Obtains pre/post treatment vital signs and weights; reports unusual findings
  • Administers heparin as delegated; initiates dialysis per orders (QB, QD)
  • Monitors intradialytic problems, patient response to therapy; provides interventions as prescribed
  • Performs vital signs prior to reinfusion; discontinues treatment per procedures; evaluates patient pre-discharge
  • Obtains hemostasis, applies dressings; records pre/post evaluations, weights, vital signs
  • Programs dialysis machines for UF goal, treatment time, Na/UF modeling; enables safety alarms (e.g., NVL 160)
  • Documents vital signs, treatment parameters accurately with initial identification
  • Reports significant information/changes in patient condition to nurse supervisor
  • Observes patient and conducts machine safety checks
  • Assists in maintaining safe, clean working environment
