Requirements

  • Adheres to FMCNA Compliance Program, regulatory, and FMS policy requirements
  • Functions under direct supervision of a licensed nurse
  • Complies with corporation, state, and federal agency regulations
  • Supports Quality Enhancement Program (QEP) and CQI activities
  • Knowledge of hemodialysis procedures, including Online Clearance Monitoring (OLC), Adequacy Monitoring Program (AMP), Urea Kinetic Modeling (UKM), vascular access evaluation, cannulation, Heparin administration (as delegated or allowed by state law), dialysis machine setup/operation/programming (e.g., UF goal, treatment time, Sodium modeling, UF modeling, safety alarms like Narrow Venous Limits 160)
  • Ability to perform vital signs measurement, weight assessment, blood pressure checks (standing/sitting), hemostasis, and dressing application
  • Accurate documentation skills (e.g., Hemodialysis Treatment Sheet, progress notes)
  • Effective communication for customer service and reporting to nurse supervisor

Responsibilities

  • Drive FMS culture through values and customer service standards; provide outstanding service to external/internal customers; develop relationships; resolve issues timely
  • Assist in patient education on adequacy measures (OLC, AMP, UKM) and disease process/access
  • Welcome patients, inquire about wellbeing, report complaints/observations to nurse supervisor
  • Evaluate vascular access for patency pre-treatment; perform cannulation; report unusual findings/difficulties
  • Obtain pre/post treatment vital signs and weight; report unusual findings
  • Administer Heparin as delegated/allowed; initiate dialysis per orders (QB, QD)
  • Monitor intradialytic problems, patient response; intervene per physician/nurse orders; report unusual findings
  • Obtain vital signs pre-reinfusion; discontinue treatment per procedures; evaluate prior to venous access termination (BP checks)
  • Obtain hemostasis, apply dressings; evaluate patient pre-discharge; report findings
  • Perform/record pre/post dialysis evaluations, weights, vital signs with initial identification
  • Calculate/enter patient-specific dialysis programming (UF goal, time, Na/UF modeling)
  • Ensure safety alarms enabled; conduct machine safety checks; report changes
  • Record vital signs/treatment parameters accurately/timely on Hemodialysis Treatment Sheet
  • Document patient treatment info completely; report significant changes/conditions to nurse supervisor
  • Assist in maintaining safe/clean working environment; setup/operate hemodialysis machines
