Requirements

  • Adheres to FMCNA Compliance Program, regulatory, and FMS policy requirements
  • Functions under direct supervision of a licensed nurse
  • Trained in FMCNA policies, procedures, and compliance with corporation, state, and federal regulations
  • Ability to setup and operate hemodialysis machines
  • Knowledge of patient education on adequacy measures (OLC, AMP, UKM) and disease process/access
  • Capable of performing vascular access evaluation, cannulation, vital signs, weights, heparin administration (as delegated or per state law), dialysis initiation/discontinuation, intradialytic interventions, hemostasis, and dressings
  • Ability to calculate and enter dialysis machine programming (UF goal, treatment time, Na modeling, UF modeling)
  • Skilled in accurate documentation on Hemodialysis Treatment Sheet and progress notes
  • Ability to monitor patients, evaluate responses, conduct machine safety checks, and report findings

Responsibilities

  • Drive FMS culture through values and customer service standards, providing outstanding service to all customers
  • Develop and maintain effective relationships via timely communication; resolve customer service issues
  • Assist in patient education on adequacy measures, disease process, and access
  • Welcome patients, inquire about well-being, report complaints/observations to nurse supervisor
  • Evaluate vascular access for patency pre-treatment, perform cannulation, report issues
  • Obtain pre- and post-treatment vital signs and weights; report unusual findings
  • Administer Heparin as delegated, initiate dialysis per orders (QB, QD)
  • Monitor intradialytic problems, intervene per physician orders, monitor patient response to therapy
  • Perform vital signs prior to reinfusion, discontinue treatment per procedures, evaluate patient pre-discharge
  • Obtain hemostasis, apply dressings
  • Record pre- and post-dialysis evaluations, weights, vital signs with initial identification
  • Calculate and enter patient-specific dialysis programming (UF goal, treatment time, Na/UF modeling)
  • Ensure safety alarms enabled (e.g., NVL 160)
  • Document vital signs, treatment parameters accurately and timely on Hemodialysis Treatment Sheet
  • Report significant information or patient condition changes to nurse supervisor
  • Observe patient and conduct machine safety checks
  • Assist in maintaining safe/clean working environment
  • Support Quality Enhancement Program (QEP), CQI activities, patient satisfaction, and process improvements
