Requirements

  • Functions as part of the Inpatient Services Hemodialysis Health Care team
  • Works under direct supervision of Hemodialysis Registered Nurse
  • Documented competency and proficiency to set up and prime equipment for renal replacement therapies (hemodialysis, continuous renal replacement, peritoneal dialysis)
  • Compliance with FMCNA policies, procedures, training, and state/federal regulations
  • Ability to work in acute dialysis suite settings (excluding Intensive Care Units)
  • Physical ability to meet demands of patient care, including obtaining vital signs, weights, specimen collection, and handling equipment

Responsibilities

  • Provides patient care under direct supervision of Hemodialysis RN for assigned patients
  • Reports and documents all new/unusual incidents, information, complaints, or problems to the RN
  • Promotes and assists in maintaining a safe and clean working environment
  • Supports Quality Enhancement Program (QEP), Quality Assessment and Performance Improvement (QAI) activities, and process improvements for patient satisfaction and FKC goals
  • Sets up, primes, tests, and ensures safety of dialysis machines per manufacturer instructions and company policy (with competency)
  • Welcomes patients, inquires about well-being, and reports complaints/observations to RN
  • Obtains pre- and post-treatment vital signs and weights; reports unusual findings to RN
  • Reports difficulties in cannulation or unusual findings to RN (per state requirements)
  • Documents patient treatment information accurately in patient record, hospital EMS, and ACES
  • Calculates and enters dialysis machine programming for UF goal, treatment time, Na modeling, and UF modeling as prescribed
  • Ensures appropriate safety alarms are enabled (e.g., narrow venous limits NVL 160)
  • Collects, labels specimens, and delivers to laboratory per facility policy
  • Evaluates intradialytic problems, provides interventions per physician order or RN direction, monitors response, and reports unusual findings
  • Obtains vital signs prior to reinfusion, performs discontinuation functions, and documents
  • Evaluates patient prior to termination of venous access (standing/sitting BPs), obtains hemostasis, applies dressings, evaluates prior to discharge, and reports unusual findings
  • Reviews and complies with Code of Business Conduct, company policies, and laws/regulations
  • Assists with various projects as assigned by supervisor or supervising RN
  • Performs other duties as assigned
