Requirements

  • Adheres to FMCNA Compliance Program, regulatory requirements, FMS policies, procedures, and training
  • Functions under direct supervision of a licensed nurse
  • Complies with corporation, state, and federal agency regulations
  • Supports Quality Enhancement Program (QEP) and Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) activities
  • Knowledge of hemodialysis machine setup, operation, and programming (e.g., Ultrafiltration (UF) goal, treatment time, Sodium (Na) modeling, UF modeling, safety alarms like Narrow Venous Limits (NVL) 160)
  • Ability to perform vascular access evaluation, cannulation, and heparin administration as delegated or allowed by state law
  • Skills in obtaining vital signs, weights, and performing pre/post dialysis evaluations
  • Capable of monitoring patient response, evaluating intradialytic problems, and intervening as prescribed
  • Accurate documentation skills (e.g., Hemodialysis Treatment Sheet, progress notes)
  • Effective communication for reporting findings to nurse supervisor

Responsibilities

  • Drive FMS culture through values and customer service standards, providing outstanding service to all customers
  • Develop and maintain effective relationships through timely communication; resolve customer service issues
  • Welcome patients, inquire about well-being, report complaints/observations to nurse supervisor
  • Evaluate vascular access for patency pre-treatment, perform cannulation, report unusual findings
  • Obtain pre and post treatment vital signs and weights; report unusual findings
  • Administer Heparin as delegated; initiate dialysis per prescribed orders (blood flow QB, dialysate flow QD)
  • Monitor patients during treatment, evaluate intradialytic problems, intervene as prescribed, report unusual findings
  • Perform vital signs prior to reinfusion, discontinue treatment per procedures, evaluate patient (standing/sitting BP), obtain hemostasis, apply dressings
  • Evaluate patient prior to discharge, report unusual findings
  • Calculate and enter patient-specific dialysis programming (UF goal, treatment time, Na modeling, UF modeling)
  • Ensure safety alarms are enabled; record vital signs and parameters accurately on treatment sheets
  • Document all treatment information accurately and completely
  • Report significant information or patient condition changes to nurse supervisor
  • Assist in patient education on adequacy measures (OLC, AMP, UKM) and disease process/access
  • Assist in maintaining safe and clean working environment; setup and operate hemodialysis machines
