Ability to function under direct supervision of a licensed nurse
Compliance with organization policies, procedures, training, and state/federal regulations
Support for Quality Enhancement Program (QEP) and Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) activities, including patient satisfaction and process improvement

Responsibilities

Assist in patient education on adequacy measures (e.g., Online Clearance Monitoring (OLC), Adequacy Monitoring Program (AMP), Urea Kinetic Modeling (UKM)) and disease process/access
Welcome patients, inquire about wellbeing, evaluate vascular access for patency, perform cannulation, and administer heparin as delegated or allowed by state law
Obtain pre- and post-treatment vital signs, weight, and vascular access evaluation
Initiate dialysis treatment per prescribed orders (e.g., blood flow (QB), dialysate flow (QD))
Evaluate intradialytic problems, intervene as prescribed, and monitor patient response to therapy
Obtain vital signs prior to reinfusion, discontinue treatment per procedures, evaluate patient (e.g., standing/sitting blood pressure), achieve hemostasis, and apply dressings
Evaluate patient prior to discharge and record pre/post dialysis evaluations, weight, and vital signs
Calculate and enter patient-specific dialysis machine programming (e.g., Ultrafiltration (UF) goal, treatment time, UF modeling)
Ensure safety alarms are enabled (e.g., Narrow Venous Limits (NVL) 160)
Record accurate vital signs, treatment parameters, and documentation on Hemodialysis Treatment Sheet and progress notes with initial identification
Report significant information or changes in patient condition to registered nurse or supervisor
Observe patient, conduct machine safety checks, document interventions for unusual status, and report changes/unusual findings
Evaluate vascular access during treatment (e.g., arterial/venous pressures), intervene as needed, and document/report findings
Obtain prescribed laboratory testing and prepare specimens
Clean blood spills immediately with appropriate disinfectant
Prepare, organize, and utilize supplies/equipment efficiently to prevent wastage
Setup and operate hemodialysis machines
Assist in maintaining a safe and clean working environment
Monitor patients performing (tasks)
