Requirements

Adheres to FMCNA Compliance Program, regulatory, and FMS policy requirements
Functions under direct supervision of a licensed nurse
Trained in FMCNA policies, procedures, and compliance with corporation, state, and federal regulations
Ability to setup and operate hemodialysis machines
Knowledge of patient education on adequacy measures (OLC, AMP, UKM) and disease process/access
Skills in vascular access evaluation, cannulation, vital signs monitoring, heparin administration (as delegated or allowed by state law), and dialysis initiation/discontinuation
Capable of performing intradialytic interventions, machine programming (UF goal, treatment time, Na modeling, UF modeling), safety alarm enabling, and accurate documentation
Ability to maintain a safe and clean working environment and participate in QEP/CQI activities

Responsibilities

Drive FMS culture through values and customer service standards, providing outstanding service to all customers
Develop and maintain effective relationships through timely communication; respond, resolve, and follow up on customer service issues
Welcome patients, inquire about well-being, report complaints/observations to nurse supervisor
Evaluate vascular access for patency pre-treatment, perform cannulation, report unusual findings/difficulties
Obtain pre- and post-treatment vital signs, weight; report unusual findings
Administer heparin as delegated/allowed, initiate dialysis per orders (QB, QD)
Monitor patient response to dialysis, evaluate intradialytic problems, intervene as prescribed/directed
Obtain vital signs prior to reinfusion, discontinue treatment per procedures, evaluate prior to venous access termination (BP), achieve hemostasis, apply dressings
Evaluate patient prior to discharge, report unusual findings
Perform/record pre- and post-dialysis evaluations, weights, vital signs with initial identification
Calculate and enter patient-specific dialysis machine programming (UF goal, treatment time, Na/UF modeling)
Ensure safety alarms enabled (e.g., NVL 160)
Record accurate/timely vital signs and parameters on Hemodialysis Treatment Sheet with initial identification
Document patient treatment information completely (Treatment Sheet, progress notes if applicable)
Report significant information/changes in patient condition to nurse supervisor
Observe patient and conduct machine safety checks
