Requirements

  • Adheres to FMCNA Compliance Program, regulatory, and FMS policy requirements
  • Functions under direct supervision of a licensed nurse
  • Trained in FMCNA policies, procedures, and compliance with corporation, state, and federal regulations
  • Ability to setup and operate hemodialysis machines
  • Knowledge of patient education on adequacy measures (OLC, AMP, UKM) and disease process/access
  • Skills in vascular access evaluation, cannulation, vital signs monitoring, heparin administration (as delegated or allowed by state law), and dialysis initiation/discontinuation
  • Capable of performing intradialytic interventions, machine programming (UF goal, treatment time, Na modeling, UF modeling), safety alarm enabling, and accurate documentation
  • Ability to maintain a safe and clean working environment and participate in QEP/CQI activities

Responsibilities

  • Drive FMS culture through values and customer service standards, providing outstanding service to all customers
  • Develop and maintain effective relationships through timely communication; respond, resolve, and follow up on customer service issues
  • Welcome patients, inquire about well-being, report complaints/observations to nurse supervisor
  • Evaluate vascular access for patency pre-treatment, perform cannulation, report unusual findings/difficulties
  • Obtain pre- and post-treatment vital signs, weight; report unusual findings
  • Administer heparin as delegated/allowed, initiate dialysis per orders (QB, QD)
  • Monitor patient response to dialysis, evaluate intradialytic problems, intervene as prescribed/directed
  • Obtain vital signs prior to reinfusion, discontinue treatment per procedures, evaluate prior to venous access termination (BP), achieve hemostasis, apply dressings
  • Evaluate patient prior to discharge, report unusual findings
  • Perform/record pre- and post-dialysis evaluations, weights, vital signs with initial identification
  • Calculate and enter patient-specific dialysis machine programming (UF goal, treatment time, Na/UF modeling)
  • Ensure safety alarms enabled (e.g., NVL 160)
  • Record accurate/timely vital signs and parameters on Hemodialysis Treatment Sheet with initial identification
  • Document patient treatment information completely (Treatment Sheet, progress notes if applicable)
  • Report significant information/changes in patient condition to nurse supervisor
  • Observe patient and conduct machine safety checks
