- High School Diploma or GED
- Successfully completed a PCT course, fundamentals nursing course in an RN program, Certified Nursing Assistant program, or equivalent of 1 year direct patient care
- BLS certification
- Phlebotomy training/education (required for Emergency Department positions)
- Demonstrates knowledge of basic patient care skills, procedures, and standards
- Strong communication skills
- Enhances skills through ongoing education and training; maintains regulatory and departmental competencies
Responsibilities
- Supports activities of daily living (bathing, dressing, grooming, oral care, feeding, toileting/hygiene, mobility, transport)
- Demonstrates standard precautions, including care for patients in isolation and safe patient practices
- Performs technical duties as directed by RN/LPN (vital signs, point of care testing, bladder scanning, foley catheter care) and documents appropriately
- Performs phlebotomy and EKGs if certified
- Identifies and communicates changes in patient status to RN/LPN and responds appropriately
- Reinforces education for patient and family/responsible party on care needs and safety issues
- Participates in patient satisfaction initiatives and goals
- Participates in performance improvement activities
- Assists in orientation of new hires
- Communicates with and supports healthcare team, patients, and patient's family/significant others
- Maintains high standards of professional ethics
