Requirements

  • Adheres to FMCNA Compliance Program, regulatory requirements, FMS policies, procedures, and training
  • Functions under direct supervision of a licensed nurse
  • Complies with corporation, state, and federal agency regulations
  • Supports Quality Enhancement Program (QEP) and CQI activities, including patient satisfaction and process improvement
  • Accountable for outstanding customer service to external and internal customers
  • Develops and maintains effective relationships through communication
  • Takes initiative to respond, resolve, and follow up on customer service issues timely
  • Ability to perform vascular access evaluation, cannulation, and report findings
  • Ability to administer Heparin as delegated or allowed by state law
  • Skilled in setup, operation, and programming of hemodialysis machines (e.g., UF goal, treatment time, Na modeling, UF modeling, safety alarms like NVL 160)
  • Capable of obtaining and recording vital signs, weights, and treatment parameters accurately
  • Ability to monitor patient response, evaluate intradialytic problems, and intervene as prescribed

Responsibilities

  • Assists in setup and operation of hemodialysis machines
  • Maintains a safe and clean working environment
  • Actively participates in process improvement activities to achieve FMC Quality Enhancement Goals
  • Assists in patient education on adequacy measures (OLC, AMP, UKM) and disease process/access
  • Welcomes patients, inquires about well-being, and reports complaints/observations to nurse supervisor
  • Evaluates vascular access for patency pre- and post-treatment and reports unusual findings
  • Obtains pre- and post-treatment vital signs and weights, reporting unusual findings
  • Performs vascular access cannulation and reports difficulties
  • Initiates dialysis treatment per prescribed orders (QB, QD)
  • Monitors patients during treatment, evaluates problems, and provides interventions as prescribed
  • Obtains vital signs prior to reinfusion and performs treatment discontinuation procedures
  • Evaluates patient prior to venous access termination (standing/sitting BP) and prior to discharge
  • Obtains hemostasis and applies dressings
  • Performs and records pre- and post-dialysis evaluations, weights, and vital signs
  • Calculates and enters patient-specific dialysis machine programming
  • Ensures safety alarms are enabled
  • Records accurate information on Hemodialysis Treatment Sheet and progress notes
  • Reports significant information or patient condition changes to nurse supervisor
  • Observes patient and conducts machine safety checks
