Functions under direct supervision of a licensed nurse

Participates in Quality Enhancement Program (QEP), CQI activities, and process improvement for patient satisfaction and FMC Quality Enhancement Goals
Ability to perform vascular access evaluation, cannulation, and report findings
Ability to administer Heparin as delegated or allowed by state law
Knowledge of dialysis machine setup, operation, programming (e.g., Ultrafiltration (UF) goal, treatment time, Sodium (Na) modeling, UF modeling), and safety alarms (e.g., Narrow Venous Limits (NVL) 160)
Ability to obtain and record pre- and post-treatment vital signs, weights, and evaluations
Ability to monitor patient response, evaluate intradialytic problems, and intervene as prescribed

Responsibilities

Drive FMS culture through values and customer service standards; provide outstanding customer service to all external and internal customers
Develop and maintain effective relationships through timely communication; respond, resolve, and follow up on customer service issues
Assist in patient education on adequacy measures (e.g., Online Clearance Monitoring (OLC), Adequacy Monitoring Program (AMP), Urea Kinetic Modeling (UKM)) and disease process/access
Welcome patients, inquire about well-being, and report complaints or observations to nurse supervisor
Evaluate vascular access for patency pre-treatment; perform cannulation and report difficulties or unusual findings
Obtain pre- and post-treatment vital signs and weights; report unusual findings
Initiate dialysis treatment per prescribed orders (e.g., blood flow (QB), dialysate flow (QD))
Monitor patients' response to dialysis, evaluate intradialytic problems, and provide interventions as prescribed or directed
Perform vital signs prior to reinfusion, discontinue treatment per procedures, evaluate patient prior to termination of venous access (standing/sitting BP), obtain hemostasis, and apply dressings
Evaluate patient prior to discharge and report unusual findings
Calculate and enter patient-specific dialysis machine programming (UF goal, treatment time, Na modeling, UF modeling)
Ensure safety alarms are enabled; record accurate vital signs and treatment parameters on Hemodialysis Treatment Sheet with initial identification
Complete accurate documentation of patient treatment (Hemodialysis Treatment Sheet, progress notes if applicable)
Report significant information or changes in patient condition to nurse supervisor
Observe patient and conduct machine safety checks
Assist in maintaining a safe and clean working environment
Setup and operate hemodialysis machines
