Requirements

  • Adheres to FMCNA Compliance Program, regulatory requirements, FMS policies, procedures, and training
  • Functions under direct supervision of a licensed nurse
  • Complies with corporation, state, and federal agency regulations
  • Supports Quality Enhancement Program (QEP) and CQI activities, including patient satisfaction and process improvement
  • Knowledge of hemodialysis machine setup, operation, and programming (e.g., Ultrafiltration (UF) goal, treatment time, Sodium (Na) modeling, UF modeling)
  • Ability to perform vascular access evaluation, cannulation, and Heparin administration as delegated or allowed by state law
  • Skills in obtaining vital signs, weights, and monitoring patient responses
  • Ability to document accurately on Hemodialysis Treatment Sheet and progress notes
  • Capability to drive customer service standards and maintain effective relationships

Responsibilities

  • Supports FMCNA's mission, vision, core values, and customer service philosophy
  • Drives FMS culture through values and customer service standards; provides outstanding service to external and internal customers
  • Develops and maintains effective relationships through timely communication; resolves customer service issues
  • Assists in patient education on adequacy measures (e.g., OLC, AMP, UKM) and disease process/access
  • Welcomes patients, inquires about well-being, reports complaints/observations to nurse supervisor
  • Evaluates vascular access for patency pre-treatment, performs cannulation, reports unusual findings
  • Obtains pre- and post-treatment vital signs and weights; reports unusual findings
  • Initiates dialysis treatment per prescribed orders (e.g., blood flow QB, dialysate flow QD)
  • Monitors intradialytic problems, provides interventions as prescribed, monitors patient response
  • Performs treatment discontinuation, obtains vital signs prior to reinfusion, evaluates patient before discharge
  • Obtains hemostasis, applies dressings
  • Calculates and enters patient-specific dialysis machine programming
  • Ensures safety alarms (e.g., Narrow Venous Limits NVL 160) are enabled
  • Records vital signs, treatment parameters, and information accurately and timely
  • Reports significant information or patient condition changes to nurse supervisor
  • Observes patient and conducts machine safety checks
  • Assists in maintaining a safe and clean working environment
