Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Successful completion of a PCT course, fundamentals nursing course in an RN program, Certified Nursing Assistant program, or equivalent of 1 year direct patient care
  • BLS certification
  • Phlebotomy training/education (required for Emergency Department positions)
  • Demonstrated knowledge of basic patient care skills, procedures, and standards
  • Strong communication skills
  • Ongoing education and training to enhance skills and maintain regulatory/departmental competencies

Responsibilities

  • Assist with patients’ activities of daily living (bathing, dressing, grooming, oral care, feeding, toileting/hygiene, mobility, and transport) under direction of RN/LPN
  • Demonstrate standard precautions, including care for patients in isolation and safe patient practices
  • Perform technical duties as directed by RN/LPN (vital signs, point-of-care testing, bladder scanning, foley catheter care), document appropriately, and perform phlebotomy/EKGs if certified
  • Identify and communicate changes in patient status to RN/LPN and respond appropriately
  • Reinforce education for patient and family/responsible party on care needs and safety issues
  • Participate in Virtua patient satisfaction initiatives and goals
  • Participate in performance improvement activities
  • Assist in orientation of new hires
  • Communicate with and support healthcare team, patients, and patient’s family/significant others
  • Maintain and demonstrate high standards of professional ethics
