Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, engineering technology, computer science, telecommunications, or related field (SG6/SG7)
  • Or Associate's degree in the above fields with 2 years of relevant work experience (SG6/SG7)
  • Or HS diploma/GED with 4 years of relevant work experience (SG6/SG7)
  • 2 years of relevant work experience in addition to education requirements (SG7 only)
  • Valid Driver's License (required for both SG6 and SG7)
  • Entry to basic level knowledge of communications technologies and inter-networking principles (SG7)
  • Competency in analytical techniques for basic assignments (SG7)
  • Fundamental understanding of pertinent telecom equipment, materials, systems, and business processes (SG7)
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills (SG7)
  • Ability to be a team player (SG7)
  • Initiative to increase job knowledge and technical skills, and present new ideas (SG7)

Responsibilities

  • Design and engineer fiber optic outside plant telecommunications networks
  • Conduct site surveys and feasibility studies to assess potential locations for fiber optic cable deployment
  • Prepare detailed engineering specifications, drawings, and documentation for projects
  • Analyze network performance and recommend improvements to optimize efficiency and reliability
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards, safety regulations, and company policies
  • Work closely with project stakeholders to manage project timelines, budgets, and resources effectively
  • Provide technical support and troubleshooting for outside plant issues
  • Maintain accurate records of network assets and infrastructure changes
  • Perform straightforward network architecture assignments under moderate direction
  • Support planning, researching, evaluating, designing, and developing network systems
  • Participate in configuration, installation, and performance analysis of networks
