Requirements

  • Registered Nurse (RN) license
  • No dialysis specific experience required (entry-level CAP 1 designation)
  • Ability to work full-time, 10-12 hour shifts (MWF: 0400-1615, TTS: 0415-1500)
  • Availability every other Saturday (Sundays off)
  • Physical ability to perform direct patient care, including heavy lifting, moving patients, assisting with ambulation, frequent prolonged standing, bending, and occasionally moving equipment up to 200 lbs. or lifting solutions up to 30 lbs. as high as 5 feet
  • Completion of CAP requirements to advance

Responsibilities

  • Perform all essential functions under the direction of the Supervisor and with guidance from the Clinical Educator, Preceptor, or in collaboration with other RNs
  • Conduct ongoing, systematic collection and analysis of patient data pre-during-post hemodialysis treatment, document in medical record, adjust treatment plans as indicated, and notify Team Leader, Charge Nurse, Supervisor, or Physician as needed
  • Assess, collaborate, and document patient/family’s basic learning needs; provide initial and ongoing education to patients and family
  • Direct and provide, in collaboration with direct and ancillary staff, all aspects of daily safe and effective hemodialysis therapy delivery to assigned patients
  • Administer medications as prescribed or per approved algorithms, documenting justification and effectiveness
  • Initiate or assist with emergency response measures
  • Serve as a resource for the health care team; participate in staff training and orientation of new staff as assigned
  • Ensure correct laboratory collection, processing, shipping procedures; reschedule missed or insufficient collections
  • Identify expected outcomes, document and update nursing assessment and plan of care through collaboration with the Interdisciplinary Team
  • Ensure patient awareness of transplant and treatment modality options
  • Participate in decision-making, teaching, leadership functions, and quality improvement activities
  • Perform all other duties as assigned by Supervisor
