Requirements

  • Registered Nurse (RN) license
  • Entry-level designation into the Clinical Advancement Program (CAP); required to complete CAP requirements to advance
  • Ability to perform physical demands: heavy lifting, moving patients, assisting with ambulation, frequent prolonged standing, bending over, moving machines/equipment up to 200 lbs. (with assistance), lifting chemical/water solutions up to 30 lbs. as high as 5 feet
  • Work in a health care facility environment with exposure to infectious/contagious diseases, moderate noise, air temperature control; includes desk/computer work, patient/staff/physician interaction, possible travel to training/other facilities

Responsibilities

  • Provide and coordinate clinically competent care including assessment, planning, intervention, and evaluation for assigned patients
  • Delegate appropriate tasks to direct patient care staff (RNs, LVN/LPNs, Patient Care Technicians)
  • Participate in decision-making, teaching, leadership functions, and quality improvement activities as part of the End Stage Kidney Disease (ESKD) health care team
  • Perform ongoing systematic collection and analysis of patient data pre-during-post hemodialysis treatment, document in medical record, adjust/modify treatment plan, notify Team Leader/Charge Nurse/Supervisor/Physician as needed
  • Assess, collaborate, and document patient/family basic learning needs; provide initial and ongoing education
  • Direct and provide (in collaboration with staff) safe and effective daily hemodialysis therapy delivery
  • Administer medications as prescribed or per approved algorithm(s), document justification and effectiveness
  • Initiate or assist with emergency response measures
  • Serve as resource for health care team, participate in staff training and orientation of new staff
  • Ensure correct laboratory collection, processing, shipping; reschedule missed/insufficient collections
  • Identify expected outcomes, document/update nursing assessment and plan of care via collaboration with Interdisciplinary Team
  • Ensure patient awareness of transplant and treatment modality options
  • Perform all duties in accordance with Fresenius Kidney Care policy, procedures, nursing standards, state/federal regulations, under Supervisor direction and with guidance from Clinical Educator/Preceptor or in collaboration with other RNs
  • Assigned oversight of Patient Care Technicians
  • Perform all other duties as assigned by Supervisor
