Requirements

  • Registered Nurse (RN) license
  • Entry-level designation into Clinical Advancement Program (CAP 1)
  • Ability to perform physical demands: heavy lifting, moving patients, assisting with ambulation, frequent prolonged standing, bending, moving machines/equipment up to 200 lbs., lifting chemical/water solutions up to 30 lbs. as high as 5 feet
  • Completion of CAP requirements to advance
  • Compliance with Fresenius Kidney Care policy, procedures, standards of nursing practice, state and federal regulations

Responsibilities

  • Provision and coordination of clinically competent care: assessment, planning, intervention, and evaluation for assigned patients
  • Delegation of appropriate tasks to direct patient care staff (RNs, LVN/LPNs, Patient Care Technicians)
  • Ongoing systematic collection and analysis of patient data pre-during-post hemodialysis treatment, documentation in medical record, adjustments to treatment plan, and notification to Team Leader/Charge Nurse/Supervisor/Physician as needed
  • Assessment, collaboration, and documentation of patient/family basic learning needs; provision of initial and ongoing education
  • Direction and provision (in collaboration with staff) of safe and effective daily hemodialysis therapy delivery
  • Administration of medications as prescribed or per approved algorithm(s), with documentation of justification and effectiveness
  • Initiation or assistance with emergency response measures
  • Serving as a resource for health care team, participation in staff training and orientation of new staff
  • Ensuring correct laboratory collection, processing, shipping procedures; rescheduling missed/insufficient collections
  • Identification of expected outcomes, documentation/updating of nursing assessment and plan of care via collaboration with Interdisciplinary Team
  • Ensuring patient awareness of transplant and treatment modality options
  • Participation in decision-making, teaching, leadership functions, and quality improvement activities
  • Performance of all essential functions under direction of Supervisor, with guidance from Clinical Educator/Preceptor or collaboration with other RNs
  • Assigned oversight of Patient Care Technicians
  • Performs all other duties as assigned by Supervisor
