Requirements

  • Registered professional nurse (entry level CAP RN 1 designation)
  • Accountable for provision and coordination of clinically competent care including assessment, planning, intervention, and evaluation for assigned patients
  • Performs duties under direction of Clinical Manager and guidance from Educator, Preceptor, or higher CAP RN levels for first 6 months
  • Expected to complete requirements to advance to next CAP level within 24 months from hire
  • Knowledge of Fresenius Kidney Care policy, procedures, standards of nursing practice, state, and federal regulations
  • Ability to perform physical demands of the job (ongoing patient data collection, hemodialysis treatments, etc.) and work in described environment

Responsibilities

  • Performs ongoing, systematic collection and analysis of patient data pre-during-post hemodialysis treatment, documents in medical record, adjusts treatment plan, and notifies appropriate staff/physician as needed
  • Recognizes and reports patient status variations from normal and collaborates with health team members
  • Assesses daily patient care needs and collaborates with direct and ancillary staff to provide safe and effective chronic hemodialysis therapy
  • Administers medications as prescribed or per approved algorithms and documents justification and effectiveness
  • Ensures correct laboratory collection, processing, shipping, and reschedules missed collections
  • Ensures physician orders are entered and acknowledged in the medical record
  • Initiates or assists with emergency response measures
  • Delegates tasks to direct patient care staff (e.g., LVN/LPNs, Patient Care Technicians) and monitors adherence to policy and procedures
  • Promotes infection control, equipment, and environmental safety
  • Assesses, collaborates, and documents patient/family learning needs; provides initial and ongoing education
  • Identifies expected outcomes, updates nursing assessment and plan of care via Interdisciplinary Team collaboration
  • Ensures patient awareness of transplant and treatment modality options
  • Makes referrals to Social Worker and Registered Dietitian as appropriate
  • Checks availability of adequate emergency equipment and supplies
  • Assists with medication tracking and inventory
  • Serves as resource for health care team, participates in staff training and orientation
  • Participates in all required staff meetings
  • Supports FMCNA's mission, vision, values, and customer service philosophy
  • Performs all other duties as assigned by supervisor
