Requirements

  • Registered Nurse (RN) license
  • Entry-level designation into Clinical Advancement Program (CAP 1); no dialysis-specific experience required
  • Ability to work full-time, 10-12 hour shifts (MWF 4a-8p, TTHS 4a-3:30p), every other Saturday required, Sundays off, no on-call
  • Physical ability to perform direct patient care: heavy lifting, moving patients, assisting with ambulation, frequent prolonged standing, bending, moving equipment up to 200 lbs. (with assistance), lifting solutions up to 30 lbs. as high as 5 feet
  • Ability to work in a health care facility environment with moderate noise, air temperature control, and potential exposure to infectious/contagious diseases
  • Completion of CAP requirements to advance

Responsibilities

  • Perform all essential functions under the direction of the Supervisor and with guidance from the Clinical Educator, Preceptor, or in collaboration with other RNs
  • Perform ongoing, systematic collection and analysis of patient data pre-during-post hemodialysis treatment, document in medical record, adjust treatment plan as indicated, and notify Team Leader, Charge Nurse, Supervisor, or Physician as needed
  • Assess, collaborate, and document patient/family’s basic learning needs; provide initial and ongoing education to patients and family
  • Direct and provide, in collaboration with direct and ancillary patient care staff, all aspects of daily safe and effective delivery of hemodialysis therapy to assigned patients
  • Administer medications as prescribed or per approved algorithm(s), and document medical justification and effectiveness
  • Initiate or assist with emergency response measures
  • Serve as a resource for health care team, participate in staff training and orientation of new staff as assigned
  • Ensure correct laboratory collection, processing, and shipping procedures; reschedule missed or insufficient collections
  • Identify expected outcomes, document and update nursing assessment and plan of care for assigned patients through collaboration with the Interdisciplinary Team
  • Ensure patient awareness related to transplant and treatment modality options
  • Participate in decision-making, teaching, leadership functions, and quality improvement activities that enhance patient care outcomes and facility operations
  • Perform all other duties as assigned by Supervisor
