Requirements

  • Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) or Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) licensure
  • Ability to function under the direct supervision of a registered nurse
  • Knowledge of Fresenius Kidney Care (FKC) policies, procedures, and training standards
  • Compliance with state and federal regulations for dialysis therapy
  • Experience or training in hemodialysis patient care
  • Ability to perform clinical orientation, precepting, and ongoing training for staff
  • Competency in delivering and maintaining evaluations/audits for LPNs and PCTs
  • Knowledge of Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) regulatory and legal requirements
  • Skills in Continuous Quality Improvement practices
  • Ability to educate on facility water systems, environmental integrity, and safety

Responsibilities

  • Participate in recruitment of new clinical staff
  • Assist with clinical orientation and ongoing training of direct patient care personnel and facility staff to FKC
  • Function as preceptor in direct patient care training programs per FKC standards
  • Deliver and maintain competency evaluations/audits for LPNs and PCTs
  • Collaborate with Clinical Manager and Education Coordinator to drive quality standards through education on CKD requirements and quality improvement
  • Provide coaching and developmental support to clinical and facility staff
  • Partner with RN and IDT staff to educate on facility water systems integrity and safety
  • Educate on maintenance of environmental integrity, patient and staff safety
  • Ensure strong communication on training and development programs
  • Implement and design educational programs for staff, including contests and team-based activities
  • Monitor patient care delivery through Quality Assurance Indicator (QAI) activities
  • Incorporate FKC business policies, procedures, and ethical practices into training
  • Assist in patient education on adequacy measures (OLC, AMP, UKM) and disease process/access
  • Welcome patients and inquire about well-being
  • Evaluate vascular access for patency pre-treatment
  • Obtain pre- and post-treatment vital signs and weight
  • Perform vascular access cannulation
  • Administer Heparin as delegated or allowed by state law
  • Set up and operate hemodialysis machines
  • Initiate dialysis treatment per prescribed orders (blood flow QB, dialysate flow QD)
  • Participate in Quality Enhancement Program (QEP), Quality Assurance Indicators (QAI), and process improvement for patient satisfaction and goals
  • Promote and assist in maintaining a safe and clean working environment
  • Participate in implementation and evaluation of patient care
