Requirements

  • Ability to perform comprehensive eye examinations using observation, instruments, and pharmaceutical agents

Responsibilities

  • Provide evidence-based vision care, including recommending and prescribing medications/treatment options (e.g., red eye, LASIK, cataract surgery)
  • Deliver routine vision care and educate patients/store associates on eye health, contact lens care, disease management, and safety factors
  • Recommend patient follow-up, consult with health professionals for care plans, provide referrals to ophthalmologists/other professionals, and follow up on diagnostics/tests
  • Evaluate patient health by reviewing medical history and performing comprehensive eye exams to assess visual acuity, function, eye health, keratometry, and refraction
  • Examine eyes to identify vision defects (e.g., injury, disease, abnormality), prescribe/fit/adjust eyeglasses/contact lenses/vision aids
  • Order/interpret/assess diagnostic tests (e.g., glaucoma testing, macular degeneration, OCT) and provide treatments (e.g., foreign body removal)
  • Develop treatment plans based on clinical presentation using evidence-based guidelines
  • Deliver exceptional customer service in all patient interactions
  • Maintain/update patient information in systems timely, accurately, and confidentially
  • Assist vision center staff (e.g., opticians) with best practices/procedures
  • Ensure adherence to state/local/federal regulations and Walmart vision center guidelines
  • Perform administrative/retail tasks (e.g., financial transactions, patient registration, retail transactions)
  • Collaborate with internal (e.g., pharmacist, store management) and external stakeholders for coordinated patient care and high-quality service
  • Analyze business objectives/customer needs, develop/communicate/implement strategies/plans/practices
  • Analyze costs/forecasts and incorporate into business plans
