Requirements

  • Proficiency in evaluating patient health across full vision center scope (e.g., visual acuity, visual function, eye health, keratometry, refraction)
  • Ability to review complete patient medical history and perform comprehensive eye examinations using observation, instruments, and pharmaceutical agents
  • Familiarity with diagnostic tests (e.g., glaucoma testing, macular degeneration, Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT))
  • Knowledge of vision center systems (e.g., BOSS) for maintaining patient information
  • Understanding of state, local, and federal healthcare regulations and Walmart vision center guidelines
  • Business acumen for analyzing objectives, costs, forecasts, and operational processes
  • Leadership skills for developing workforce strategies, recruiting, talent development, and succession planning

Responsibilities

  • Provide evidence-based vision care, including recommending/prescribing medications and treatments (e.g., red eye, LASIK, cataract surgery), routine vision care, and patient education on eye health, contact lens care, disease management, and safety
  • Recommend patient follow-up, consult with health professionals on care plans, provide referrals to ophthalmologists/other professionals, and follow up on diagnostics/tests
  • Evaluate patient health by reviewing medical history, performing eye exams, determining visual acuity/perception/focus/coordination, and identifying vision defects (e.g., injury, disease)
  • Prescribe, fit, and adjust eyeglasses, contact lenses, and vision aids; order/interpret/assess diagnostic tests; provide treatments (e.g., foreign body removal); develop evidence-based treatment plans
  • Deliver exceptional customer service in all patient interactions and represent the company in vision care and patient engagement
  • Maintain/update patient information in systems timely, accurately, and confidentially
  • Assist vision center staff (e.g., opticians) with best practices and procedures
  • Perform administrative and retail tasks (e.g., financial transactions, patient registration, retail transactions)
  • Collaborate with internal (e.g., pharmacist, store management) and external stakeholders for coordinated patient care and high-quality service
  • Provide overall direction by analyzing business objectives/customer needs, developing/implementing strategies/plans, managing resources, evaluating processes, measuring outcomes, and promoting customer environment/continuous learning
  • Develop/implement workforce strategies, including diagnosing capability gaps, recruiting/selecting/developing talent, mentorship, and succession planning
  • Cultivate environment of integrity/ethics adherence, integrate values into practices, develop consequences for violations, and support Open Door Policy
