Requirements

  • Licensed Nurse Practitioner with scope of training and education to provide patient care under physician supervision
  • Experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals independently or in collaboration with health professionals
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, and governmental regulations
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals
  • Ability to present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public
  • Works on problems of diverse scope requiring evaluation of identifiable factors and good judgment in selecting methods and techniques
  • Compliance with Code of Business Conduct, company policies, procedures, local, state, and federal laws and regulations
  • Ability to meet physical demands and work environment characteristics of the job (e.g., essential functions in clinical settings like dialysis)

Responsibilities

  • Collect data to support patient assessment, including vital signs, social history, chief complaint, and current concerns
  • Alert physician to patient complaints, especially life-threatening ones
  • Support clinical functions to prepare patients for examination, treatment, or procedure
  • Call pharmacy refills and patient callbacks as directed by office protocol and physician
  • Document all calls, correspondence, and encounters with patients within established guidelines
  • Assess patient's condition and learning needs using the nursing process, provide education on treatment, special diets, medication, follow-up tests, and healthy lifestyle
  • Round on patients in a dialysis setting on designated schedule
  • Administer prescribed medications and treatments as directed by physician per nursing standards
  • Perform procedures and treatments within scope of training and experience as ordered by physician, following protocols and documenting outcomes
  • Triage emergency and non-emergency phone calls, directing appropriately (e.g., to Emergency Department) and documenting per protocols
  • Obtain, prepare, and transport specimens for diagnostic tests as ordered, using universal precautions
  • Observe, record, and report patient's condition and reactions to drugs/treatments to physician
  • Assist in coordination of patient transfers to hospital (direct admissions)
  • Report and document diagnostic tests as directed by physician within scope
  • Review patient records and pertinent information, taking appropriate action per nursing standards and protocols
  • Document and report clinical information or complaints from phone calls to physician within timeframes
  • Escalate issues to supervisor/manager as necessary
  • Mentor other staff as applicable
  • Assist with various projects as assigned by direct supervisor
  • Other duties as assigned, potentially including department or location-specific functions
