Requirements

  • Based out of the Kerns building in NE Portland, OR (community-based position)
  • Per diem/on-call for all shifts; minimum of 6 shifts per quarter
  • Ability to provide immediate mobile response to mental health crises in Multnomah County
  • Skills in triaging mental health crisis calls from Multnomah County Call Center and law enforcement
  • Ability to identify and assess risk factors for harm to self or others via client interviews and collateral information
  • Knowledge to articulate potential outcomes of interventions, risks/benefits, and select least intrusive/supportive options
  • Authority and ability to initiate involuntary transport holds per County guidelines
  • Ability to coordinate with community agencies, service providers, treatment providers, and emergency departments
  • Ability to assess personal safety and request law enforcement support
  • Ability to collaborate with law enforcement on risk assessment and intervention plans
  • Ability to provide information and facilitate linkages to mental health treatment and social services
  • Ability to consult with teammates, supervisors, program managers, and medical directors
  • Ability to operate in ambiguous and changing work environments
  • Commitment to respecting client rights, demonstrating professional boundaries and ethics
  • Adherence to mandatory abuse reporting laws and HIPAA requirements

Responsibilities

  • Provide immediate mobile response to individuals experiencing mental health crises in Multnomah County
  • Triage mental health crisis calls from the Multnomah County Call Center and law enforcement agencies
  • Identify and assess risk factors for harm to self or others in the client’s psycho-social state
  • Consider and articulate potential outcomes of interventions, discuss risks/benefits, and justify chosen course of action
  • Initiate involuntary transport holds for individuals at risk of harm to self/others per County guidelines
  • Coordinate crisis responses with community agencies and service providers
  • Provide assessment dispositions to treatment providers and emergency departments
  • Assess personal safety in the environment and request law enforcement support as needed
  • Collaborate with law enforcement to determine intervention risks and develop client approach plans
  • Provide information and facilitate linkages to mental health treatment and social services
  • Consult with teammates, supervisors, program managers, and program medical directors
  • Operate in ambiguous and frequently changing work environments
