Requirements

  • Knowledge of supervising microbiology QA laboratories, including environmental monitoring (equipment swabs, air samples, retort cooling water, ingredient water, product samples), biochemical characterization, identification, raw material/in-process/finished product testing
  • Ability to ensure methods/procedures are followed and CAPA activities are completed
  • Capability to provide direction, technical expertise, and leadership in problem-solving for microbial issues
  • Experience in implementing and maintaining quality systems
  • Skills in managing budgets and staff requirements
  • Expertise in providing microbial support for retort, powder, and aseptic lines
  • Ability to interface with division personnel on microbiological guidelines/specifications
  • Knowledge of compliance with quality, regulatory, safety, and HR procedures/policies
  • Coaching, mentoring, recruitment, selection, development, retention, performance reviews, growth plans, policy implementation for employees
  • Ability to develop/administer technically sound Environmental Monitoring program and update as needed
  • Leadership in problem-solving for microbial issues and directing plant microbiological certifications

Responsibilities

  • Supervise operation of Plant Microbiology QA Laboratories
  • Implement and maintain effectiveness of the quality system
  • Manage budgetary and staff requirements
  • Provide product and manufacturing microbial support for retort, powder, and aseptic lines
  • Interface with division personnel to develop microbiological guidelines and specifications
  • Assure compliance to procedures/policies in quality, regulatory, safety, and HR for reporting departments
  • Coach, develop, mentor employees; handle recruitment, selection, development, retention; conduct performance reviews; develop growth plans; interpret/implement employee policies; assign projects/tasks
  • Develop and administer Environmental Monitoring program, updating as appropriate
  • Lead problem-solving efforts related to microbial issues
  • Direct plant-initiated microbiological certifications
