Requirements

  • College/Technical School diploma/degree in Microbiology or related field (B.Sc. in Microbiology or related science field an asset)
  • Minimum 1 year demonstrated microbiology laboratory experience
  • Experience with SAP/LIMS (an asset)
  • Equivalent combinations of education, training, and relevant work experience may be considered
  • Detail oriented with excellent organizational skills
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work well independently and in a team environment with limited supervision
  • Knowledge of Good Laboratory Practices
  • Understanding of Standard Operating Procedures
  • Good understanding of safety standards
  • Computer proficiency with Microsoft Office programs (Outlook, Excel, Word)
  • Proficiency with the English language
  • Physical abilities: ordinary ambulatory skills, physical coordination to move about lab/office, stand/walk/stoop/kneel/crouch for prolonged periods, lift/carry/move 10-35 pounds, arm/hand/finger dexterity, visual acuity for keyboard/monitor/equipment use

Responsibilities

  • Performs analysis on finished products, raw materials, or packaging materials following established methods, Thermofisher Scientific SOPs, and GMP
  • Performs lab functions: media preparations, culture maintenance, microbial count, pathogen screening, routine instrument calibrations/maintenance, environmental testing, micro assay testing
  • Media preparation and growth promotion testing
  • Document all tests/test materials/equipment used and all results obtained
  • Conduct water testing and environmental monitoring
  • Culture maintenance and microbial identification
  • Perform equipment maintenance/calibration
  • Assist with lab cleaning/equipment cleaning/glassware cleaning
  • Assist with incoming sample management
  • Reports filings, scanning, and archiving as required
  • Perform all work in a safe manner and maintain a clean and organized work environment
  • Maintain a safe working environment and report potential hazards
  • Perform alternating or rotating shift work including weekends or after hours as required
  • Follow all Environmental Health & Safety Policies and Procedures
  • Work collaboratively with team members, model positive team principles, partner to meet objectives
  • Carry out duties in compliance with Patheon quality systems SOPs and GMP
  • Maintain workspace in a clean and orderly fashion
  • Adhere to departmental systems for smooth workflow (visual management, scheduling, etc.)
  • Be client and patient conscious at all times
  • Understand KPIs, improve team performance, identify system improvements, engage in problem solving
  • Model positive thinking, open to change, motivate team to adapt
  • Proactively identify areas for improvement in procedures
