Requirements

  • Minimum 8–12 years of relevant technical experience in Mechanical Engineering, including at least 5 years developing for production rotating electrical machines, electronics equipment packaging solutions, and/or mechanical devices for industrial and aerospace applications
  • Experienced in developing requirements specifications for mechanical subsystems according to MIL-STD 961D standard or equivalent
  • Sufficient proficiency with SolidWorks for mechanical modeling, ANSYS for structural and fatigue analysis, and ANSYS Icepack for thermal analysis
  • Extensive experience with SolidWorks and designing electrical rotating machines for high-performance applications
  • Extensive experience with thermal management tradeoffs, solutions, and materials properties
  • Experienced with bonding techniques for extreme environmental conditions using different adhesives
  • Experienced with manufacturing methodologies of electrical machines
  • Experienced with creating and maintaining product document tree
  • Experienced with creating and maintaining products bill of materials (BOM)
  • Experienced with test and measurement techniques, such as torque transducer calibration and instrumentation
  • MS degree in Mechanical Engineering (preferred)
  • Recognition by a reputable international engineering society such as ASME at the senior membership level or higher (desired)
  • Familiarity with MIL-STD-810 or DO-160 (demonstrated)
  • Full understanding and knowledge of engineering principles in the technical discipline, with ability to work independently
  • Effective communication skills to articulate concepts to technical and non-technical staff (verbal and written)
  • Ability to excel in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment with small teams sharing broad duties
  • Strong initiative, drive to accomplish goals, ownership of work products, commitment to learning from mistakes, and focus on improvement
  • Effective problem-solving, analytical, interpersonal, and communication skills
  • Focus on teamwork and collaboration

Responsibilities

  • Leads or supports mechanical design, testing, and production of electrical machines
  • Leads or supports design of electronics packaging for high altitude aerospace applications
  • Leads or supports mechanical packaging development for electronic equipment with stringent environmental requirements (mass, volume, thermal, vibration)
  • Manages mid-size development projects outsourced to sub-contractors (systems, equipment, or components)
  • Leads or supports thermal, structural, dynamic, and fluid flow analysis efforts for electronics equipment
  • Leads testing and data collection in the laboratory and the field
  • Models mechanical devices and selects proper materials
  • Performs stress and fatigue analysis
  • Performs thermal analysis and selects bonding materials
  • Develops mechanical drawings and specifies dimensional tolerances
  • Develops assembly instructions and test procedures
  • Develops test plans and test procedures to verify designs
  • Applies engineering techniques to design, install, modify, analyze, repair, and test tools, engines, machines, and other mechanically functioning equipment
  • Works on complex issues requiring in-depth knowledge of variable factors
  • Executes team assignments effectively following schedules, milestones, and available resources; may coordinate activities of other personnel (Team Lead)
