Requirements

  • Serve as people manager and hands-on technical lead for multiple power systems sub-systems and 1-3 design engineers

  • Willingness to support prototype and production builds in Broomfield, CO factory (10-15% of time, depending on development phase)

Responsibilities

  • Work with Product and Design teams to develop high-level product requirements and create lower-level engineering requirements for sub-systems (solar array, custom power systems junction boxes, lighting, OTS devices, propulsion systems, thermal systems hardware) in collaboration with systems, controls/software, and vehicle engineering teams
  • Review regulatory requirements and ensure all components meet them
  • Work with supply chain and finance teams to ensure sub-systems meet cost targets
  • Perform Design Failure Modes & Effects Analysis (DFMEA) to identify reliability and safety issues, create design fixes, and drive test plans
  • Create timelines and schedules for sub-system development and align with program team milestones
  • Create detailed CAD and drawings of custom components; collaborate with CAD/PLM team to resolve packaging issues and release parts
  • Select off-the-shelf (OTS) components meeting functional, durability, cost, and quality needs
  • Create tolerance stack analyses and apply GD&T controls to 3D geometries
  • Hold design reviews with cross-functional teams
  • Host core team meetings to advance work and collaborate cross-functionally
  • Work with supply chain to select suppliers and perform detailed design for manufacturing (DFM) analysis
  • Create design validation plans (DVPs) with test engineering team
  • Perform necessary analyses (thermal, structural, etc.) to reduce design failure risks and meet performance targets
  • Build functional prototypes for early de-risking
  • Perform engineering validation (EV) testing of sub-systems for performance and safety characterization
  • Troubleshoot issues from highly accelerated life testing (HALT) and vehicle-level tests with test engineering team
  • Create work instructions with production operations teams and perform design for assembly (DFA) analysis
  • Perform first article inspections of supplier components and triage quality issues with in-house quality engineering
  • Support prototype and production builds in Broomfield, CO factory (10-15% of time)
  • Support field service engineering for customer and marketing vehicles
  • Be the technical lead for electrical hardware engineering
  • Manage team (people management for 1-3 design engineers)
