Engineering Leader, Connect Framework & Platform

Position Overview

Confluent is revolutionizing data movement, enabling businesses to leverage real-time data streaming for faster reactions, smarter development, and dynamic customer experiences. We are seeking an experienced Engineering Leader to join our Connect Engineering organization. In this role, you will collaborate closely with senior engineers and key stakeholders to design, architect, and evolve our Connect platform and framework, ensuring it can scale our business significantly. You will leverage your expertise in large-scale distributed systems and big data to elevate our platform, focusing on critical operational aspects like availability, reliability, performance, monitoring, emergency response, capacity planning, and disaster recovery. Responsibilities

• Collaborate with a team of engineers and architects to evolve the Kafka Connect framework and platform.
• Partner with engineering teams and product management on critical aspects of product definition, architectural design, and delivery.
• Work closely with product management, engineering leadership, and other key stakeholders across Confluent and Confluent Cloud to build and drive the overall roadmap.
• Influence the overall domain health and operational hygiene for the Cloud Platform.

Requirements

• 14+ years of experience in software development and engineering.
• 5+ years of engineering management experience leading productive, high-functioning teams.
• Proven ability to hire top talent, motivate engineers, coach/mentor, and manage performance effectively.
• A strong track record of consistently shipping features and meeting deadlines, with the ability to move fast, build incrementally, and iterate.
• Possess a sense of urgency, an aggressive mindset towards achieving results, and excellent prioritization skills.
• Ability to anticipate future technical needs for the product and craft plans to realize them.
• Demonstrated ability to influence teams, peers, and upper management through effective communication and collaboration.
• Focused on building and maintaining a culture of collaboration within the team.
• Strong fundamentals in distributed systems design and operations.
• Familiarity with Kafka or similar high-scale distributed event streaming platforms.
• Solid experience working with large private or public clouds.
• A self-starter with the ability to work effectively in teams.
• Excellent communication skills.
